I’m supporting Seve Day – are you?

Seve Day

No Golf site worth it’s due will fail to promote this event – not because it feels it has to, just because it is in honour of arguably the greatest and bravest gentleman – not to mention naturally talented golfer – Europe, nay, the world, has ever seen: Seve Ballesteros.

Seve Day is a golf competition raising money for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation & Cancer Research UK. It will see the top 72 golfers’ Stableford scores from any registered golf course in Europe across the month of August battling out the final, the eventual winner getting a trip to the 2013 US Masters as well as the prestige.

The Celebrity Final, which is being held on my doorstep at The Belfry, is scheduled for October, but don’t miss out – your scores have to be registered at any official European golf club this month to be in with a chance to tee off alongside the stars in Autumn.  And, no, I’m not posh enough to live in Sutton Coldfield, but just down the M5 a little in The Black Country.

There are £250 worth of freebies just for registering (£25 / €30), including free 18-hole rounds at The Belfry itself, London’s The Shire or golf courses at any Q  or MacDonalds Hotels chains.  It doesn’t stop there!

Three of the biggest names in online Golf are pitching in £25 vouchers – Your Golf Travel, Spabreaks.com and Direct Golf UK.  And there’s more…

…the Urban Golf Club is offering half an hour lessons at any one of its venues, just for your registration – worth the entry fee on its own!  Plus loads of other bits and pieces, if those incentives weren’t enough.

At time of print, just over 1,100 golfers have registered to date and raised more than twenty-seven and a half grand, to be split between the Seve foundation and Cancer Research UK.

Like me, even if you’re not good enough or fit enough (I qualify on both accounts) to play, show your support, anyway!  For research, for golf, but most of all for the memory of a man who was not only an ambassador for the sport, but for both fair play and Spain, to boot!

Thanks in advancw, TTFN, Thet Watson. xxx

WGC Bridgestone Invitational – favourites odds at PaddyPower

Do you ever fancy a flutter on the old golf like I do?  I’m not talking huge stakes, mind – ‘er indoors only gives me so much pocket-money a week to play with.  But since the suspension of activity on www.webgolfcoach.com, I thought I’d take over the mantle and bring you the latest odds for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Whilst Stateside there is this God-given belief that Tiger’s going to win every time he takes to the first tee – although a few American golf pundits keeping their cleats on terra firma think he’s won three so far this season and that’ll be his lot – it seems PaddyPower is offering similar odds (9/2 compared to 5/1 across The Pond) to US bookies.

However, it would appear that those in the know at PaddyPower are also of the opinion that Tiger’s roared down the last winning fairway this season, too.  There offer is simply this: if you place your bet over your mobile phone this week and Tiger wins, they will refund the value of your losing bet by way of offering you the same stake on the US PGA Championship next week.  Darrelldoo for me!

But golf’s not just about Tiger Woods!

Let’s take a look at some of the other odds.

Luke Donald is second favourite at 14/1 – he’s due a win and if I had to put a first-past-the-post bet on anyone it would be the current world number one. Especially as he’s paired with Phil Mickleson – they’ll give each other a game and hopefully bring the best out in each other. Funny – Lefty’s not in the top betting here (35/1), but they’re offering thirty-threes, Stateside.

Setting off at the same time but starting on the front nine (Luke & Phil playing the back nine first) is our very own Justin Rose. It’s the first time I’ve not seen him anything like the 35/1 PaddyPower is offering – he’s been a lot shorter at eighteens all season, as far as memory serves.

And although Rory’s been a little off his best golf recently, the bookies aren’t ruling him out, pricing him 18/1 alongside Adam Scott, runner-up at The Open just a fortnight ago. And Twenties for Lee Westwood? Wow! Okay, so The Open was Lee’s worst Major finish of the season but his golf’s been so consistent all year, that’s tempting one of my £1/e/w bets, for sure!

Then to finish the rundown of bookies favourites, you have three names who’ve all made great strides on the American golf circuit this year, Hunter Mahan, Jason Dufner and Rickie Fowler. They’ve each already got at least one title under their belts on the PGA Tour in 2012 and are tempting e/w bets at 25/1.

So, with the poorly octopus my wife has given me, it’s £1 each way on Lee and Lefty and £2 on the snout for Luke. Let’s hope none of them get too tyred at the Bridgestone this weekend to make the podium on Sunday evening. (sorry – that was poor – it’s been a long week!)

TTFN, Thet Watson.

Chapter One: Janey

Chapter One: Janey

Chapter One: Janey

Folks – get it whilst you can.

This is Mary Catherine‘s short story collection whereby all of the stories form a Chapter One of a main character’s own tale, yet subsequently lead into the Chapter One of the next character’s plot.  A cracking concept and an even better deal on Amazon at the moment, priced at a whole £0.00 for the e-book (Kindle) version.

If you’ve not got a kindle, you can download an app from Amazon for all platforms.  It’s easy – even a technophobe like me accomplished it first time for my PC.  A list of all available apps for Kindle is available on Emotobooks, Revolutionary Reading.

The full synopsis is through the link on the book cover, above, on Amazon.  And if you’re an Amazon account holder and have the kindle app already installed, you can buy Chapter One: Janey with a single click.  It could not be easier!

Oh – and don’t forget to like it on Amazon!

That’s all, folks.

Oh, by the way – if you’ve been looking for an excuse to buy a Kindle Touch and this collection of free stories is the decisive factor, just click the image below and it will take you to them on amazon.co.uk:

Golf Instruction: Stan Utley’s Bunker Do’s and Don’ts

See on Scoop.itUK Golf

One of the hardest tricks to learn in golf is getting out of the sandtrap (or bunker, to you and I).

Stan Utley provides online video instruction as well as step by step ‘play your way out of a bunker’ written instructions.

This is the first post from my brand new UK Golf stream on Scoop. It, which I’ll be sharing on my Google+ page, darrelldoo.  Or vice versa, depending upon whether I’m buffering or mid-flow.

With Steve holding back on webgolfcoach, the 300 golf followers on G+ have got to have a bit of something to keep their fores! and holes in one whetted. innit!?
